About India Bulls Project
History Of India Bulls Project
Indiabulls began in 2000 as Indiabulls Financial Services, a stockbroking firm founded by three IIT Delhi graduates: Sameer Gehlaut, Rajiv Rattan, and Saurabh Mittal. The company quickly expanded, establishing subsidiaries in various sectors including stockbroking, consumer finance, housing finance, and real estate.
By 2004, Indiabulls Financial Services went public with its Initial Public Offering (IPO). Over the next few years, parts of the company spun off, with Indiabulls Real Estate demerging in 2006 and Indiabulls Securities in 2008.
In 2013, a significant restructuring occurred when Indiabulls Financial Services merged with its wholly-owned subsidiary, Indiabulls Housing Finance, which became the group's flagship company.
A year later, in 2014, the group underwent a split among its founders. Sameer Gehlaut retained control of Indiabulls Housing Finance, Indiabulls Real Estate, Indiabulls Securities, and Indiabulls Wholesale Services. Meanwhile, Rajiv Rattan and Saurabh Mittal took control of Indiabulls Power (later renamed RattanIndia Power) and Indiabulls Infrastructure (later renamed RattanIndia Infrastructure).
By 2017, Indiabulls Housing Finance had grown to become the second-largest housing finance company in India and was included in the prestigious NIFTY 50 benchmark index. However, the company faced significant challenges between late 2018 and 2019. Its shares and bonds sharply declined due to a credit market crisis (triggered by the IL&FS collapse), a shrinking balance sheet, fraud allegations against its promoters, and a failed merger attempt with Lakshmi Vilas Bank.
Further changes came in 2020 when the group announced its exit from Indiabulls Real Estate through a merger deal with Embassy Group entities. Sameer Gehlaut also stepped down as chairman of Indiabulls Housing Finance in 2020 and ceased to be its promoter in 2023. Most recently, in July 2024, Indiabulls Housing Finance was renamed Sammaan Capital, and Indiabulls Real Estate became Equinox India Developments.
